De opnames van de film vonden plaats in Nederland en Spanje. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Majoor Marco Kroon werd door het Korps Commandotroepen tussen 2004 en 2007 vier keer uitgezonden naar\u00a0Irak en Afghanistan. In\u00a0De Vuurlinie\u00a0is onder meer te zien hoe\u00a0de toen nog luitenant Kroon in 2006 in de Afghaanse provincie Uruzgan zijn manschappen door meerdere vuurgevechten leidt in Afghanistan. Daarvoor ontving hij later de militaire Willems-Orde, de hoogste militaire onderscheiding die Nederland kent. Regisseur Roel Rein\u00e9laat laat ook zien hoe de majoor in de jaren daarna worstelt met  de geruchtmakende nasleep, zijn PTS-klachten en ernstige trauma\u2019s die hem meermaals in opspraak hebben gebracht en hij uiteindelijk voor de rechters moet verschijnen.
